Indonesia UMKM Boost Economy with Regional Turnover Rise and Digital Fashion Growth
The micro, small and medium enterprise (UMKM) sector in Sleman Regency recorded a total turnover of Rp3.39 trillion as of May 2026, according to the local Cooperatives and Small Business Office. More than half of this value was generated by five sub‑districts, with Ngaglik leading at Rp487.2 billion, followed by Sleman, Tempel, Depok and Kalasan. The office highlighted uneven distribution of economic activity and is pursuing training and support programs to promote more balanced growth across the region.
In the broader Indonesian fashion industry, UMKM firms employ 3.69 million workers and contributed Rp120.13 trillion to GDP in the first quarter of 2026. The sector is increasingly leveraging digital platforms such as TikTok Shop and Tokopedia, especially during events like Indonesia Fashion Week 2026. One example is Beige Studio, which uses short‑form video and live streams to attract customers, handling up to 700 orders per day and seeing sales rise over 50 percent during coordinated campaigns. The rise of discovery commerce and affiliate marketing is expanding market reach for local fashion brands.
