Indonesia updates BNPB leadership and strengthens mining sector oversight

Lieutenant General Kristomei Sianturi has assumed leadership of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). Drawing on his previous experience with the Covid-19 task force, Sianturi pledged to accelerate national disaster mitigation, specifically addressing forest and land fires, floods, and volcanic eruptions. He emphasized a collaborative and responsive approach involving the military, police, and local governments. Additionally, Sianturi stated he supports law enforcement investigations following a recent corruption sting operation within the agency.

In a separate development regarding industrial integrity, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) and PT Mineral Industri Indonesia (MIND ID) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This partnership aims to prevent money laundering and corruption within the national mining sector. The collaboration seeks to ensure transparency and strengthen governance as the industry undergoes downstream transformation to increase economic value.
