Indonesia updates job classification system to KBJI 2026

Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) have finalized the 2026 Indonesian Standard Classification of Occupations (KBJI 2026). This update replaces the previous 2014 edition to better reflect the evolving global and domestic labor landscape.

Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that the KBJI serves as a common language for industries to facilitate recruitment, organizational structuring, and communication between companies and job seekers. The classification aims to capture emerging roles in sectors such as green jobs, digital occupations, tourism, and healthcare.

The KBJI 2026 performs several key functions, including providing a standard for employment statistics, serving as a foundation for labor market information, mapping industrial human resource needs, and connecting job roles with future skill requirements. It is also intended to support career development and labor mobility. National labor surveys, such as Sakernas, will utilize this updated classification to provide more granular data on shifting employment trends.
