Indonesia urged to integrate industrial decarbonization into RUEN 2026–2035

Experts are urging the Indonesian government to solidify industrial decarbonization strategies within the National General Energy Plan (RUEN) for 2026–2035. During a policy dialogue in Jakarta, stakeholders emphasized that the plan must address regulatory harmonization, infrastructure readiness, and financing to ensure successful implementation.

Satya Widya Yudha, a member of the National Energy Council, noted that increasing clean energy supply must be matched by confirmed demand to ensure new capacity has clear users. He suggested that President Prabowo Subianto’s target of developing 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) of solar power could serve as an accelerator within the RUEN framework without altering the existing baseline scenarios.

Zakiul Fikri, Director of Legal Affairs at the Center of Economic and Law Studies (CELIOS), highlighted the need to bridge the gap between planning and implementation. He argued that the RUEN should establish priority sectors for decarbonization, noting that success should be measured not only by renewable energy capacity but also by the actual reduction of fossil fuel consumption in industrial sectors.
