Indonesia vehicle tax relaxations announced in Central Java and Sleman

The Central Java Provincial Government has announced a vehicle tax relaxation program effective from September 21 through December 28, 2026. According to Muhamad Masrofi of the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), the policy includes the waiver of administrative sanctions and fines, as well as the exemption of progressive taxes for owners of second, third, fourth, and subsequent vehicles.

This initiative aims to increase taxpayer compliance, which currently stands at 54 percent in Central Java. With approximately 11 million of the 17 million circulating vehicles actively paying taxes, the province seeks to address a tax backlog totaling Rp2.4 trillion.

In Sleman, residents have multiple options for paying motor vehicle taxes and validating vehicle registration certificates (STNK). Available services include the main Samsat office, drive-thru lanes, mobile Samsat units, and Public Service Malls (MPP). Specialized evening and night services are also available at certain locations, such as the Maguwoharjo auxiliary Samsat, to accommodate different schedules.
