Indonesia water crisis continues in Bula and Fakfak

In Bula, the capital of Seram Bagian Timur, a prolonged drought has created a clean‑water shortage that officials expect to last until early 2027. Regent Fachri Husni Alkatiri said the region is monitoring affected points, searching for new water sources such as wells, and has asked the national disaster agency (BNPB) for additional water‑truck support to keep supplies flowing.

In Fakfak, West Papua, residents have been forced to wash clothes and bathe in the Kampung Air Besar River after the local PDAM stopped delivering water to homes. The community attributes the shortage to a mix of natural conditions, inadequate infrastructure and operational issues, and is urging prompt repairs and rainfall to restore safe water access.
