Indonesia manages weather shifts and 2G network phase-out reviews
Indonesia is facing various environmental and technological transitions. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the 2026/2027 rainy season will arrive gradually, with most of the country expected to enter the season in November 2026. This arrival is predicted to be later than normal for approximately 61% of the country's seasonal zones.
In Jakarta, weather modification operations (OMC) in the Jabodetabek area concluded on September 25, 2026, using sodium chloride to stimulate rainfall to combat drought and pollution. Local weather forecasts indicate a mix of cloudy skies and potential light to heavy rain across various Indonesian cities, with warnings issued for high waves in the Indian Ocean.
On the telecommunications front, the Indonesian Telecommunications Providers Association (ATSI) is reviewing plans to phase out 2G networks. The goal is to reallocate the 900 MHz frequency band to support 4G and 5G technologies. However, officials noted that approximately 29 million users still rely on 2G, particularly in Eastern Indonesia, necessitating careful planning to avoid communication disruptions.
Additionally, Jakarta continues to enforce odd-even traffic restrictions on 25 major roads to manage vehicle volume and congestion.
