BMKG manages diverse weather alerts and international disaster warning collaborations
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is managing various weather-related events and international collaborations across Indonesia. In Jakarta, forecasts indicate cloudy conditions with potential light rain in South and East Jakarta on Friday night. Other regions in Sumatra are facing diverse conditions, including potential thunderstorms in West Sumatra and heavy rain warnings in several provinces.
In East Java, Malang Raya is experiencing a mix of sunny weather in urban areas and hazy conditions in highland regions. Meanwhile, in Lampung, high waves of up to 4 meters have been predicted due to strong winds from the Indian Ocean, posing risks to maritime safety.
On a strategic level, BMKG recently hosted the President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Abdulla Al Mandous, to strengthen international cooperation on early warning systems and disaster risk reduction.
Regarding disaster response, the Padang City government has deployed rescue teams to Arosuka, Solok, to assist in recovery efforts following flash floods. Additionally, in Malang Regency, 12 villages are currently facing a water crisis, prompting the BPBD to distribute millions of liters of clean water to affected residents.
