Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park launches Rp 180 trillion downstream projects
President Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated the first export of electric vehicle (EV) batteries and launched 11 new downstream industrial projects at the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) in Central Halmahera, North Maluku.
The new investment program is valued at approximately Rp 180 trillion (US$10.2 billion). These projects include the commercialization of four existing industrial projects and the construction of seven new ones. This expansion marks a shift in the IWIP ecosystem from basic nickel processing and refining toward high-tech manufacturing, including the production of battery materials, aluminum, electric trucks, heavy equipment, and renewable energy components.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani reported that realized investment in the IWIP area has reached roughly US$20 billion, with plans for an additional US$7 billion in development. The industrial park currently employs more than 100,000 workers. During the event, President Prabowo emphasized Indonesia's commitment to protecting foreign investors, stating that partners who trust and work with the nation are regarded as “brothers” and that Indonesia will protect them as its own family.
