Indonesia women's cricket team to debut in Women's Asia Cup

The Indonesia women's national cricket team is set to make its debut in the Women's Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium. The team's first match will be against Bangladesh, followed by fixtures against defending champions Sri Lanka and hosts the UAE.

This milestone follows twelve years of development. Previously, Indonesia lacked T20I status and organized cricket infrastructure beyond expatriate clubs. The national women's championship was established in 2014, and the sport has since expanded across 21 islands. According to Persatuan Cricket Indonesia chairman Abhiram Singh Yadav, approximately 200,000 people play cricket in the country, including roughly 100,000 women.

The team is captained by wicketkeeper-batter Ni Putu Ayu Nanda Sakarini, who transitioned to cricket after finding the competitive landscape for badminton, Indonesia's premier Olympic sport, to be highly saturated. Head coach Nitish Salekar, formerly with the Thailand women's team, noted that the depth of talent in Indonesia has expanded considerably.
