Indonesian activists file complaint against Netanyahu over Gaza flotilla detention
Nine Indonesian volunteers who joined the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission were intercepted by the Israeli military in mid‑May 2026 and detained for several days before being released on May 21 following diplomatic efforts.
The volunteers have now submitted a complaint to Indonesia’s Attorney General’s Office alleging crimes against humanity, piracy at sea, kidnapping and torture by Israeli authorities. Their lawyer, Kafin Muhammad, said the filing invokes Indonesia’s universal‑jurisdiction provisions and specifically names Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the commander‑in‑chief responsible for the alleged abuses.
Evidence presented includes photographs of injuries, autopsy reports and a detailed chronology of the detention. Similar investigations have been opened by France, Italy and Australia, highlighting growing international scrutiny of Israel’s handling of the flotilla activists.
