Indonesian Air Force tests fighter jets on Pasuruan–Probolinggo toll road

The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) successfully conducted landing and takeoff trials for fighter jets on the Pasuruan–Probolinggo toll road in East Java on October 22, 2026. The exercise utilized a 3.5-kilometer stretch of the highway, measuring approximately 24.2 to 24.5 meters in width, to test the infrastructure's capability as an alternate emergency runway.

The test involved four aircraft: two Embraer EMB-314 Super Tucano jets from Lanud Abdulrachman Saleh and two F-16 Fighting Falcons from Lanud Iswahjudi. Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono stated the trials aim to measure operational readiness and the effectiveness of using highway infrastructure for air operations when primary airbases are unavailable.

To facilitate the testing, the toll road was temporarily closed, with traffic diverted between the West and East Probolinggo toll gates. The Ministry of Public Works noted that the rigid pavement construction of the toll road met the technical requirements for such strategic national defense purposes. Following the completion of the trials and necessary facility restorations, the toll road was scheduled to reopen to the public at 18:00 WIB on the same day.
