Prabowo Subianto calls for Palestinian freedom at Gontor centennial

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the 100th-anniversary celebration of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor in Ponorogo, East Java, on September 19, 2026. During the event, the President made several high-profile remarks regarding national strength and international solidarity.

Prabowo repeatedly chanted ‘Free Palestine’ and expressed deep emotion regarding the ongoing attacks on the Palestinian people. He stated that Indonesia must build its national strength and self-reliance to effectively help oppressed nations. During the ceremony, Palestinian Ambassador Abdalfatah A. K. Alsattari presented the President with a traditional keffiyeh, which Prabowo wore during his speech.

In his address to the students and alumni, Prabowo emphasized the importance of learning from history to prevent future colonization. He urged the younger generation to build a strong, independent Indonesia that can manage its own natural resources. He also touched upon domestic priorities, including food security, supporting fishermen, and improving the quality of education.
