Indonesian American Games 2026 Debuts in Chicago with Diaspora Athletes
The inaugural Indonesian American Games (IAG) 2026 opened at the Wintrust Sports Complex in Chicago, Illinois, from June 19 to 21. Around 200 athletes from the Indonesian diaspora across 50 U.S. states competed in seven disciplines – volleyball, basketball, tennis, pickleball, badminton, mini‑soccer and chess. The event also featured cultural performances such as traditional dances, pencak silat, lacrosse demonstrations and a poco‑poco competition.
The games received full backing from the Indonesian government, with Ambassador Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo and the President of Indonesia's National Olympic Committee, Raja Sapta Oktohari, attending the opening ceremony, alongside the Indonesian Consul General and numerous community members. Organizer Davon Arjunaidi said the IAG aims to unite the diaspora through sport and showcase Indonesia's cultural heritage to the broader American public.
