Indonesian authorities crack down on loud karaoke at roadside stalls
Authorities in Indonesia are taking action against roadside stalls and coffee shops providing karaoke services that disturb local residents with loud music late into the night.
In Padang, the Municipal Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has begun engaging with stall owners to provide education on noise management and appropriate operating hours. While officials stated they are not banning the businesses, they are issuing summons to owners who have repeatedly ignored previous warnings from local sub-districts. The agency aims to prevent larger public order disturbances through these persuasive approaches and formal investigations.
Similarly, in the Mojoagung Market area of Jombang, joint police units conducted raids on several coffee shops following community complaints regarding karaoke activities lasting until the early morning hours. The operation, led by the Mojoagung Sector Police, focused on addressing noise levels and checking for the circulation of illegal alcohol. While no alcohol was found, officers ordered patrons to leave and instructed managers to cease the loud music to restore peace to the surrounding residential areas.
