Indonesian authorities issue fire safety warnings during dry season

Authorities in Indonesia are issuing fire safety warnings to businesses and maritime workers due to the ongoing dry season.

In Bekasi, the Fire and Rescue Service (Disdamkarmat) has urged local business owners to inspect fire extinguishing equipment and educate employees on preventing hazards, such as improper cigarette disposal or burning trash. Officials noted that PT Prakarsa Alam Segar (PT PAS) successfully managed a fire on August 30, 2026, because their hydrant system was functional and water sources were readily available.

Similarly, the Tegal City Police Water Police (Satpolair) have alerted fishermen and crew members at the Pelindo Tegal Port to be cautious of sparks during ship repairs and other activities. Given the hot and dry weather, officials emphasized that small acts of negligence could trigger significant fires in port areas. They also advised ensuring all vessel safety equipment is in good condition before departure.
