Indonesian authorities seize 1.3 tons of ketamine from MV King Sundi

Indonesian authorities have intercepted 1.3 tons of ketamine being smuggled aboard the vessel MV King Sundi in the waters of the Riau Islands. The seizure was the result of a joint operation involving the Indonesian National Police, the Navy, the National Narcotics Board (BNN), and Customs.

Investigations by the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency revealed that the MV King Sundi had previously conducted two other ketamine smuggling attempts: one in February 2026 destined for the Philippines and another destined for Taiwan. The third attempt, targeting Indonesia, involved approximately 1,298 kilograms of the drug. The vessel reportedly loaded the narcotics in the South China Sea before being intercepted in the North Natuna Sea.

Eight crew members, including one Taiwanese national and seven Myanmar nationals, have been named suspects. Coordinating agencies have emphasized that the success of the operation demonstrates the strength of inter-agency cooperation in combating transnational maritime crime.
