Indonesian banking competition relies on large private banks
Economists emphasize the importance of large private banks in maintaining competition within the Indonesian banking industry. Amid rumors regarding the acquisition of Bank Central Asia (BCA), experts suggest that a balance between state-owned banks and private institutions is vital to prevent market dependency on a single type of actor.
Yusuf Rendy Manilet from the Center of Reform on Economics (CORE) Indonesia noted that large private banks with diverse ownership structures drive innovation, efficiency, and higher service standards. Such competition provides consumers with more product choices and greater bargaining power, as they can switch providers if services are unsatisfactory.
