Indonesian banking sector shows mixed results for BSI and BCA
Major Indonesian banks are showing divergent trends in performance and market valuation as of late 2026. PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) reported a profit of Rp5.30 trillion through August 2026, representing a 10.07% year-on-year increase. This growth was driven by business expansion, increased financing, and a strengthening of low-cost funds (CASA), which reached Rp246 trillion. BSI also saw its cost of funds decrease to 2.30%.
In contrast, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) faces challenges regarding its stock performance. Despite solid fundamentals and growing profits, BCA's stock has seen a year-to-date decline of 24.46%, influenced by foreign capital outflows totaling approximately Rp32.1 trillion and rising risk premiums. Analysts suggest the stock correction reflects market uncertainty and external sentiments rather than a deterioration of the bank's core business, noting that BCA's high CASA levels provide stability amidst high interest rates.
