Indonesia proposes Rp107.3 million average Hajj cost for 2027
The Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has proposed an average Hajj Pilgrimage Cost (BPIH) of Rp107,340,172 per pilgrim for 2027. This represents an increase of approximately 22.8% compared to the 2026 cost of Rp87,409,365.
Under the new proposal, the financing structure would shift significantly. Pilgrims would directly pay 40% (Rp42,936,068), while the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) would cover 60% (Rp64,404,103) using investment yields. This is a reversal from 2026, where pilgrims bore 62% of the costs.
Minister Mochamad Irfan Yusuf attributed the increase to rising aviation fuel prices, a weakening rupiah against the US dollar, and geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East affecting oil prices. The government stated the increase aims to improve service quality, such as better accommodation and tent capacity.
In response, Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR) has raised concerns regarding the financial burden on pilgrims. Lawmakers are calling for a detailed breakdown of costs and are exploring ways to extend the payment period to five months to provide more flexibility for prospective pilgrims.
