Indonesian cultural festivals promoted to boost tourism and heritage

Various cultural festivals in Indonesia are being highlighted for their roles in preserving local traditions and boosting regional tourism.

In Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, the Erau Traditional Festival has commenced with the sacred ritual of erecting the Tiang Ayu at the Kutai Kartanegara Ing Martadipura Palace complex. Dwi Marhen Yono, Assistant Deputy for Tourism Amenity and Accessibility Development for the Kalimantan region, stated that such cultural heritage serves as a primary draw for international tourists, distinguishing Indonesia from its neighbors. The festival includes various ceremonies, expos, and MSME bazaars, concluding in late September.

In Tangerang, the local Department of Culture and Tourism is supporting the Kirab Budaya and Ruwat Bumi event scheduled for September 27, 2026. Centered at the Tjie Thien Ta Sen Bio Temple in Neglasari, the event commemorates the temple's 43rd anniversary. Officials noted that the celebration aims to strengthen cultural identity, promote multicultural harmony, and serve as an educational tool for younger generations while acting as a regional tourism magnet.
