Indonesian egg farmers demand corn supply stability amid price crisis

Egg farmers in Indonesia are facing a severe economic crisis characterized by rising feed costs and plummeting egg prices. The Presidium of the National Layer Poultry Association (PPN) has called on the government to ensure a stable supply of corn at fair prices, noting that corn constitutes approximately 50% of feed ingredients and cannot be easily replaced by small-scale farmers.

In Blitar, micro-scale farmers reported that egg prices dropped to as low as Rp17,100 per kilogram in June, while the cost of corn and feed continued to climb. Following an audience with Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), representatives from the Berkah Telur Blitar Cooperative were summoned by Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman for direct dialogue in Jakarta.

Farmers are seeking stronger government regulations to protect small-scale producers from these recurring annual cycles of high production costs and low market prices. In response to the crisis, the Ministry of Agriculture has initiated internal meetings with high-ranking officials to address the situation.
