Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo provides emergency aid to citizens after Kumamoto quake

On 28 July 2026 a strong earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan, damaging towns such as Uki and Uto. The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo (KBRI Tokyo) activated its emergency response team, led by First Secretary Hernawan Bagaskoro Abid, to assist Indonesian nationals (WNI) in the affected areas.

The team distributed essential supplies—including drinking water, instant noodles, rice and medicines—through cooperation with the local Indonesian community organization PPI Kumamoto and the Japanese group Fumaku. Ambassador Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir said the embassy will continue monitoring the situation, providing aid to aftershock victims, and urged Indonesians to follow local authorities. Hotlines were issued for further assistance, while logistics remain constrained and some public services are still disrupted.
