Indonesian Finance Minister calls for stricter customs oversight

During the 80th anniversary of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) in Jakarta, Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara called for strengthened oversight to combat illegal smuggling and protect the national economy. The Minister emphasized that enforcement against illegal imports, such as used clothing and illegal rice, is vital to protecting domestic industries, small businesses, and farmers.

Beyond narcotics and dangerous goods, the Minister instructed officials to tighten monitoring of strategic commodities and natural resources, including gold and nickel. He noted that the agency must remain adaptive to geopolitical shifts and digital trade trends.

As of late September 2026, customs and excise revenue reached Rp240.28 trillion, representing 71.51 percent of the state budget target and an 8.57 percent increase compared to the previous year.
