Indonesian Hajj Health Oversight Finds Drug Shortages and Staff Gaps in Makkah

The Indonesian Hajj supervisory team (Timwas Haji DPR) reported two major issues affecting Indonesian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. During a May 21‑22, 2026 inspection of health satellite clinics in Makkah, team chair Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal noted that drug supplies and distribution were inadequate, saying, "Masih ada sedikit kendala terkait ketersediaan obat dan distribusinya ke setiap sektor maupun satelit kesehatan." The problem stems from limited logistics under Indonesia’s Ministry of Health and reliance on doctors who bring only a small stock of medicines.

A separate visit on May 23, 2026 to the Indonesian Hajj Health Clinic (KKHI) in Makkah revealed a shortage of medical personnel. Deputy Chair Nihayatul Mafiroh reported that only about 700 health workers were deployed, which is insufficient for the thousands of pilgrims spread across various camps and worship sites. The team said it will follow up on both the drug distribution and staffing shortfalls as part of its evaluation of the 2026 Hajj operations.
