Indonesian influencers report shadow banning amid forest fire crisis

Several prominent Indonesian influencers, including Tasya Farasya, Jerome Polin, and singer Andien, have expressed concerns that their social media accounts are being shadow banned. This phenomenon, where platform visibility is silently restricted, reportedly coincided with their increased advocacy regarding the ongoing forest and land fires (Karhutla) in Indonesia.

Tasya Farasya reported a significant drop in Instagram Story views, noting that engagement fell from her usual one million views to only tens of thousands after speaking out on the issue. Similarly, Andien noted a decline in reach while reposting information about the fires.

In response to the environmental crisis, Tasya Farasya has expanded her humanitarian efforts by establishing 'Rumah Aman Asap' (Smoke Safe Houses) in Central Kalimantan. Following an initial location in Palangka Raya, two additional safe houses have been added in Sampit and Palangka Raya. These facilities, equipped with air purifiers, are designed to provide clean air for vulnerable groups, such as infants, children, and the elderly, to shelter from hazardous smoke. The stations are scheduled to begin operations on October 23, 2026.
