Indonesian KKN Student Programs Digitize UMKM and Recycle Waste Oil
Students participating in Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) at UIN Walisongo Semarang organized a "UMKM Go Digital" program in Desa Galih, Kendal, Central Java. The initiative helped local micro‑, small‑ and medium‑size enterprises register on Google Maps, adopt QRIS digital payments and receive free banner and logo redesigns, aiming to broaden market reach and modernise operations. One vendor, Sumiati, said the support made her business more visible and easier to transact.
Separately, KKN volunteers from Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau (UMRI) conducted a community‑service project in Kampung Tuah Indrapura, Riau, teaching residents how to convert used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles. The training covered oil filtration, mixing with stearin or paraffin, wick installation and adding essential oils, providing a clean‑up solution for household waste and a new source of income for families.
