Indonesian labor unions urge presidential signing of new protection law
Labor unions in Indonesia are calling on President Prabowo Subianto to immediately sign the Labor Protection Law, which was passed on October 6, 2026. Representatives from the Indonesian Independent Labor Confederation met with the Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom), Syahganda Nainggolan, to express concerns regarding the delay in receiving a copy of the decision and rumors of potential delays or article changes.
Separately, discussions regarding the 2027 Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) are beginning. Labor groups, including the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) and the Labor Party, have proposed wage increases ranging from 7.5% to 9.5%, citing inflation and economic growth. Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that the determination of the UMP will follow the new legislation and involve discussions with the National Tripartite Cooperation Institution and the National Wage Council.
