Indonesian lawmaker calls for regulation of Sound Horeg

Indonesian lawmaker Maman Imanulhaq has expressed support for the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) fatwa regarding the prohibition of certain 'Sound Horeg' practices. He noted that the MUI's decision was a response to public complaints regarding disturbances caused by specific Sound Horeg activities.

Imanulhaq clarified that the fatwa does not ban Sound Horeg as a form of community creativity or expression. Instead, it targets specific elements that cause harm, such as excessive noise, threats to public order, or associations with alcohol and erotic dancing. He highlighted that the phenomenon has contributed to the local economy and job creation.

To address the tension between community expression and public peace, Imanulhaq called for government intervention through clear regulations. He emphasized the need for legislation that protects the rights of both proponents and those affected by the noise, ensuring that the practice is regulated rather than simply banned.
