Indonesian lawmaker urges state coverage for sexual violence victims' medical costs
Yanuar Arif Wibowo, a member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has called on the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to establish a formal cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Health. The goal is to ensure that the state covers the costs of forensic medical examinations (visum et repertum) and medical treatment for victims of sexual violence.
During a public hearing involving the LPSK, the National Commission on Violence Against Women, and the Child Protection Agency of Mataram, Wibowo emphasized that bureaucratic hurdles and medical costs currently act as additional burdens for victims seeking justice. He advocated for a simplified and rapid reporting system to the LPSK to ensure victims can access free healthcare facilities without relying on inconsistent local policies.
