Indonesian lawmakers debate human rights and asset seizure laws
Members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) are discussing legislative reforms concerning human rights and anti-corruption measures. Willy Aditya, Chairman of Commission XIII, expressed hope that the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) could be granted authorities similar to those of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to increase the impact of its recommendations.
Separately, Ahmad Sahroni, Vice Chairman of Commission III, raised concerns regarding a proposal by the KPK to seize assets from officials not listed in their Wealth Reports (LHKPN). Sahroni argued that such seizures must be grounded in clear legal proof to avoid human rights violations and potential abuse of power, emphasizing the importance of the presumption of innocence during the ongoing discussion of the Asset Seizure Bill.
