Indonesian legislator proposes special committee over widespread wiretapping scandal

Abdullah, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has called for the immediate formation of a Special Committee (Pansus) to investigate a massive wiretapping scandal. The probe follows reports of interception targeting President Prabowo Subianto.

The legislator noted that the surveillance reportedly extends beyond the President to include thousands of individuals, such as state officials, business leaders, community figures, and media personnel. Abdullah emphasized that the issue transcends a standard criminal case, as it involves national security, state institution integrity, and privacy protections. He urged the committee to uncover the actors, networks, and potential abuses of authority involved in the interceptions.
