Indonesian legislators address industrial gas supply and infrastructure
Indonesian legislative commissions are addressing energy supply issues to support domestic industrial growth. Commission VII of the DPR RI plans to hold discussions with Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) to resolve gas supply constraints that are currently hindering the production of ceramics, tiles, and roofing materials.
During a visit to PT M-Class Industry in Karawang, West Java, legislator Banyu Biru Djarot noted that industrial production capacity is currently limited to approximately 80 percent of installed capacity due to these supply bottlenecks. Fluctuations in gas availability have led to sharp production decreases during specific periods.
Simultaneously, Commission XII of the DPR RI is emphasizing the importance of optimizing the gas network (jargas) system 2, which spans from Semarang to Indramayu. This infrastructure, built with approximately Rp2.7 trillion in state funds, aims to strengthen energy support for industrial zones along the northern coast (Pantura) of Java, including Cirebon, Tegal, Batang, and Semarang. Legislators expect this connectivity to boost national revenue, regional economic growth, and job creation.
