Indonesian local governments distribute masks amid haze pollution
Local governments in Indonesia are distributing masks to protect citizens from deteriorating air quality caused by haze from forest and land fires.
In Aceh Barat, the regency government is preparing 10,000 masks to anticipate incoming haze. While the situation in Aceh Barat remains normal and has not yet disrupted schools or daily activities, officials are monitoring the situation closely. Children and toddlers are being prioritized for protection as they are more vulnerable to respiratory issues.
In Palembang, South Sumatra, the city government has distributed 15,000 free masks at strategic intersections to motorists and pedestrians. Officials have advised residents to reduce outdoor activities when unnecessary and urged the public to avoid burning land or trash to prevent further pollution.
