Indonesian local legislatures approve 2027 budget plan, Jember bars press coverage
The Gianyar Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) in Bali voted to approve the General Budget Policy (KUA) and the Temporary Budget Ceiling (PPAS) for fiscal year 2027. Chairman I Ketut Sudarsana said the documents comply with national regulations and were signed after a joint review by the DPRD budgeting body and the Local Government Budget Team on 27 July. The agreement sets out revenue, expenditure and financing assumptions that will guide the drafting of Gianyar’s 2027 regional budget.
In Jember, East Java, the DPRD Budget Body decided to prohibit journalists from covering the KUA‑PPAS discussion for 2027. Seven parliamentary factions voted for a closed session, with Deputy Chairman Widarto and Chairman Ahmad Halim endorsing the decision. This marks the first time in Jember’s history that media access to budget deliberations has been blocked, despite earlier proposals for an open meeting.
