Indonesian military delivers two tonnes of aid to drought‑hit Central Papua

The Indonesian Defence Forces (TNI) dispatched two tonnes of food, staple items and medicine to three sub‑districts—Agandugume, Oneri and Lambewi—in Puncak District, Central Papua, after an El Nino‑related drought caused crop failure and a temperature drop to 2‑9 °C. Supplies included rice, flour, instant noodles, milk, sugar, biscuits and other essentials, along with medicines and a team of medical personnel.

The aid was flown from Timika’s Mozes Kilangin Airport using two Grand Caravan aircraft and two helicopters. Brigadier General Stefie Jantje Nuhujanan, commander of the Habema Joint Operations Command, said the operation faced challenges from remote terrain, adverse weather and the presence of armed separatist groups, but aimed to alleviate food and water shortages until conditions improve.
