Indonesian Military Recovers Bodies of Civilians Killed by OPM in Papua
Indonesian armed forces recovered the body of Teina Alya, the last of three civilians killed by the Free Papua Movement (OPM) on the Trans‑Papua road in Yahukimo District, Papua Highlands Province. The victim was found about 50 metres below the Kolof River bank, roughly 100 metres from the shooting site, after a vertical‑rescue operation that required rappelling down a steep cliff created by a landslide.
The attack was carried out by an OPM faction led by Kopitua Heluka. During the recovery, troops encountered armed separatists and came under fire, but completed the evacuation without further casualties. The remains were taken to Dekai Regional General Hospital and handed to the victim’s family and local community leaders for burial according to local customs.
