Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs assists repatriation of worker killed in Japan accident
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is facilitating the repatriation of an Indonesian citizen who died following a workplace accident in Otake, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The victim, a 21-year-old intern identified as IK from Purworejo, Central Java, was participating in the Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) since June 2024.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at a Toda Kogyo Corp. chemical and material manufacturing plant. According to local reports, the victim was working alone when his neck became trapped in a large paint mixing machine, approximately 1.5 meters in diameter and depth.
Authorities in Otake are currently investigating the exact chronology and cause of the accident, including the review of CCTV footage. The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and the Consulate General in Osaka are coordinating with Japanese police and the Ministry of Manpower to ensure the victim's rights are fulfilled and the repatriation process is handled correctly.
