Indonesia national team prepares for FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026

Indonesia's national football team is preparing for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, which the country will host from September 24 to October 5. Head coach John Herdman has expressed a strong ambition to win the tournament, describing it as a mission to secure the nation's first major trophy.

However, the squad faces injury concerns. Captain and defender Jay Idzes is under scrutiny after sustaining a thigh injury while playing for Sassuolo against Juventus. Coach Herdman noted that while the squad composition is largely set, recent injuries have forced the coaching staff to re-evaluate player availability and prepare alternative options.

In terms of squad development, naturalized player Luke Vickery is expected to potentially debut during the tournament. Additionally, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir has announced that the team will participate in friendly matches in the Middle East in November 2026 to prepare for the 2027 Asian Cup, including a scheduled match against Jordan.
