Indonesian Navy Stops Drug Smuggling at Juanda Airport

For three consecutive days in early July, the Indonesian Navy’s airport security task force (Satgaspam) at Juanda International Airport in Sidoarjo intercepted multiple attempts to smuggle hard drugs and narcotics. The operations uncovered shipments destined for Makassar and Jayapura via Lion Air, Batik Air, Sriwijaya Air and other carriers.

Authorities seized more than 45,000 tramadol tablets, over 39,000 Y‑logo pills, and 27 grams of methamphetamine (sabu), with an estimated total value of roughly Rp336 million. The contraband was hidden in luggage and accessory‑type packages, detected through X‑ray screening and manual inspection, and confirmed with Thermo Scientific testing equipment. All seized items were confiscated for further investigation.

The successful interdiction was credited to vigilant cargo‑handling staff and coordinated naval security efforts, underscoring the Navy’s role in protecting the airport’s civil‑military enclave.
