Indonesian officials agree to strengthen Pancasila education in schools

Melchias Markus Mekeng, Chairman of the Golkar Party Fraction in the MPR, and Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti have agreed to strengthen Pancasila education in schools. The goal is to build character and foster nationalism among the younger generation as Indonesia moves toward its 'Indonesia Emas' vision.

During an academic workshop in Bandung, Mekeng emphasized that Pancasila should not merely be taught as academic knowledge but should be reflected in students' daily behavior, such as politeness toward teachers and parents. He proposed reintegrating Pancasila as a core subject and advocated for its inclusion in the revision of the National Education System Law.
