Indonesian officials call for maximum penalty for Taufik Hidayat in YTR assault case

Indonesia’s Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai said the suspect Taufik Hidayat, accused of assault and kidnapping of a woman identified as YTR, must be prosecuted without any restorative‑justice mechanism, stating, “I demand a legal process and no restorative justice. He must be punished so the crime does not happen again.”

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi and retired General (purn) Dudung Abdurachman also urged that Hidayat receive the maximum sentence allowed by law, emphasizing the victim’s severe physical injuries and lasting psychological trauma. Both officials backed Pigai’s call to reject restorative justice and to impose the harshest penalty permitted under Indonesian law.
