In a separate incident in Medan, village head Lurah Syerly was recorded mocking a resident’s complaint about inadequate street lighting and rising crime, saying “Ciyee curhat dia bahh.” The remark sparked outrage online and prompted calls for the local government to address the safety concerns and the official’s conduct.

Both episodes went viral, prompting public debate over the professionalism of civil servants and local officials in Indonesia and urging authorities to provide guidance or sanctions.
