DPR RI reviews 2027 budget for disaster mitigation and public media

Members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission VII are reviewing the 2027 budget allocations for various state institutions, focusing on public service effectiveness and disaster mitigation.

In discussions regarding environmental management, lawmakers urged the Ministry of Environment to prioritize disaster mitigation and early warning systems over reactive crisis management. Similarly, representatives criticized budget structures for public broadcasting agencies, suggesting that funds should prioritize public service programs rather than just administrative costs for civil servants.

Regarding media and information, LKBN ANTARA has proposed a 2027 Public Service Obligation (PSO) budget of Rp311.5 billion to combat disinformation and expand news distribution to remote provinces. Meanwhile, the Commission discussed the need to upskill citizen journalists to ensure real-time information meets journalistic standards.

Separately, the Press Council (Dewan Pers) and the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) are addressing the management of National Press Day (HPN) 2027. The Press Council plans to consult with all constituents to resolve differing views on whether the event should be organized by the Council or specific organizations like PWI.
