Jakarta Police arrest suspect in Menteng phone snatching of Indian national

Police in Jakarta Pusat have arrested a suspect, identified by the initials NJ, for the snatching of a mobile phone belonging to an Indian national, Gupta Rishika, in the Menteng area.

The incident occurred on September 4, 2026, on Jalan Gondangdia 3, while the victim was walking toward a place of worship. Two suspects on a motorcycle approached and seized the device before fleeing.

Authorities utilized CCTV footage and face recognition technology to identify the driver, NJ. Investigators noted that NJ is a repeat offender who was previously involved in a robbery targeting a Marine Colonel in Monas in 2020. Police are currently pursuing an accomplice, identified as RK, who is believed to have physically taken the phone during the crime.
