Indonesian police crack down on illegal street racing in Banda Aceh and Ngawi

Police in Indonesia have conducted separate operations to crack down on illegal street racing and traffic violations in Banda Aceh and Ngawi.

In Banda Aceh, the Polresta Banda Aceh Patroli Perintis Polwan apprehended several riders suspected of participating in illegal racing in the Ulee Lheue area during the early hours of Friday, August 28, 2026. Acting Police Chief Kombes Pol Teguh Priyambodo Nugroho stated that the riders were detained for data collection and guidance to prevent future incidents that endanger road users. Authorities plan to increase patrols in high-risk locations.

In Ngawi, the Ngawi Police Department (Polres Ngawi) took action against 15 traffic violations during a night patrol conducted from Friday night to Saturday morning, August 29, 2026. The enforcement targeted illegal racing and the use of non-standard exhaust systems. Officers seized 14 motorcycles and one bus, along with a driver's license. Traffic Unit Chief AKP Moh. Imam Reza emphasized that these periodic patrols aim to maintain public order and safety by preventing accidents caused by reckless driving and noise pollution.
