Indonesian police detain suspects in child sexual abuse cases in Surabaya and Aceh
In Surabaya, the East Java Police’s Women and Children Protection Directorate identified a 47‑year‑old man, identified only as ST, as the primary suspect in a repeated sexual assault of his daughter. The investigation, spanning incidents from 2025 to April 2026, led to the suspect’s detention at the East Java Police detention center on 23 June 2026. Authorities seized birth certificates, family cards, divorce documents and medical reports, and are preparing the case for prosecution. The police, in collaboration with the Surabaya Child Protection Agency, are providing the victim with health services, psychological counseling, legal aid and educational support through high school.
Separately, police in Aceh Tengah captured three individuals accused of rape, including two minors, after a complaint was filed. The arrests took place on 25 June 2026 following the collection of at least two pieces of admissible evidence. One suspect, aged 18, was detained at a wedding venue without resistance, while the other two were located through further investigative work. The operation underscores the regional police’s focus on combating sexual violence against women and children.
