Indonesian Police Traffic Corps orders strict action against illegal levies
Brigadier General Aries Syahbudin, Head of the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas Polri), has ordered strict disciplinary action against personnel involved in illegal levies (pungli). Officers found guilty of such practices face immediate removal from their duties or positions on the same day.
During a virtual meeting with regional traffic directors and heads of traffic units across Indonesia, Syahbudin emphasized that all public complaints must be processed professionally, transparently, and accountably according to standard operating procedures. To prevent extortion and middleman practices, he directed traffic units to openly disclose all official requirements, procedures, and fees for services such as driver's licenses (SIM) and police certificates (SKCK).
Syahbudin also mandated strengthened supervision at service counters and insisted that all payments be conducted through official mechanisms with valid proof. These directives align with the National Police Chief's 'Police with the Community' initiative, aimed at fostering clean, professional, and humanistic public services.
