Indonesian political parties face calls for public trust amid 2029 election signals

Political discussions in Indonesia have recently focused on the strategic role of political parties and the early signals of future electoral contests. During a focus group discussion in Banyumas organized by the Central Java DPRD, experts emphasized that political parties must act as pillars of democracy rather than mere vehicles for seeking power. Dr. Indaru Setyo Nurprojo from Universitas Jenderal Soedirman noted that parties serve as essential links between the state and the public, tasked with political education, leadership recruitment, and translating public aspirations into policy.

In a separate development, Golkar Party official Ahmad Doli Kurnia interpreted recent statements by Democrat Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) regarding the nature of power as a potential signal of readiness for the 2029 Presidential Election. AHY remarked that power is a public mandate with time limits rather than a permanent possession. While Golkar expressed respect for the autonomy of other parties, Doli stated that Golkar remains focused on supporting the current Prabowo-Gibran administration through 2029.
