Indonesian Press Council urged to ratify Journalism Fund regulations

The Media Sustainability Coalition (KKM) and PR2Media are urging the Indonesian Press Council (Dewan Pers) to immediately ratify regulations regarding the Indonesian Journalism Fund. A draft of these regulations was agreed upon in April 2026, and stakeholders are calling for its ratification during the upcoming plenary meeting.

The fund is intended to support small and regional media outlets that struggle to access advertising revenue. To ensure editorial independence, the proposed regulations include a mechanism to create an anonymous relationship between donors and recipients. This “wall of separation” is designed to prevent both government and non-government donors from influencing journalistic products or funding decisions.

According to the proposal, fund distribution will be managed through an open, proposal-based selection process evaluated by an ad hoc team to maintain impartiality.
